Announcing Skill Foundry's Evolution!

First, a heartfelt thank you for your amazing support throughout this past year as we've continued to grow our content library and evolve Skill Foundry. Your feedback and engagement have been instrumental in shaping where we're headed next!

I'm excited to announce a few significant changes that we have launched this week that will better serve your learning journey:

Python for Beginners is Live!

Python is a beginner friendly programming language that is popular for development, automation, data analytics, and when working with AI! It's a language that should be in every modern developer's toolkit.

Like all Skill Foundry courses, we explore both the how and the why. It establishes a solid foundation that is required for any more advanced pathways.

Most learners should be able to finish this course in 1 to 3 months.

You can find more information about the course here.

If you purchase the community version before Sunday, May 18th, get 20% off with the promo code PYTHON2025!

Retiring Subscription Plans

We've decided to retire our subscription model for several important reasons:

  • We discovered that subscriptions can inadvertently penalize part-time learners who end up paying more overall than those who have more practice time.
  • A big difference between Skill Foundry and other providers is the depth of learning in our courses. We want you to feel confident that you can learn at your own pace without rushing or worrying about "getting your money's worth" each month.
  • Most importantly, we believe you should have lifetime access to your courses, allowing you to return for updates or refreshers without having to worry about subscription payments.

Introducing Personal Mentorship

Each of our courses and bundles are now available in two versions:

Community Versions

This is your classic Skill Foundry experience. The community versions give lifetime access (and future updates) to course content and materials.

The Discord community is where you can get help from our mentor team and your peers.

Mentorship Versions

The mentorship version includes everything in the community version plus:

  • You will be assigned a personal, professionally experienced mentor to assist you with learning.
  • All mentors have substantial experience in the field, we aren't some bootcamp that hires their own graduates!
  • A personalized onboarding meeting to set up your environment and establish your pacing and goals.
  • A bucket of 1:1 Zoom sessions with your mentor for code reviews and personalized guidance.
  • A private Discord channel with your mentor for ongoing support.
  • Resume review (complete bundle only)
  • Mock interview (complete bundle only)

For the full bundles, we offer a 12-month payment plan. Once paid in full, the content is yours for life, including future updates to the bundled courses.

What About Future Courses?

We are continuing to add content and value to the Skill Foundry library. Here are some of the courses we will be launching over the next 12 months:

  • Professional Skills: Effective job searching, behavioral and technical interviewing, and career management. We will go deep into how to be successful on a professional team, with the soft skills and habits that help you thrive in IT besides the technical skills.
  • React / JavaScript: Our HTML, CSS, & JavaScript course lays the foundation of how web pages and the internet work. Learning a modern, popular framework like React is the next step in the series.
  • Python Data Analytics & AI: Building on the foundation of our Python for Beginners course, we will explore popular data packages like Numpy and Pandas, machine learning, and yes, how to embed LLMs in applications.

Existing customers will have access to loyalty discounts on new releases!

What This Means for Current Subscribers

If you're currently on a Skill Foundry subscription plan:

  • You can remain on your plan for as long as you wish.
  • All new courses will continue to be added to your subscription.
  • If you decide to switch to one of the lifetime bundles, reach out to our team and we will provide you with a credit for 100% of what you've paid through your subscription.

I'm excited about these changes and believe they better align with our mission to provide flexible, high-quality learning experiences.

As always, I'm here to answer any questions you might have!

Happy Coding!

Best regards,
Eric Wise & the Skill Foundry Team

On Human Value, AI, and Spam Finally, companies are taking steps to curb AI spam Ever since tools like Chat-GPT hit the scene, I have been sounding the alarm about the incoming flood of misinformation, spam, and clickbait content. It took a while for platforms and users to catch up, but we’re finally seeing a backlash against low-quality, AI-generated content. In March, Google announced that it is making changes to combat AI spam in search. They understand the threat to their business. People...

Advancing your Tech Career in the AI Era In the past year, I've seen an increasing number of people on social media fretting about the future of tech jobs in an AI world and whether it's even worth it to go into the field. The sensationalist, click-bait pieces from media and influencers haven't helped matters, so I figure it's time to take a few minutes and help people take a deep breath, calm down, and have a rational discussion about what is happening today and my prediction for what is...

As we enter 2024, it’s time to leave behind 2023. And I know I'm not the only one who is ready to move on, especially in the tech world. 2023 was an awful year for jobs, and even though we're not out of the woods yet, things are starting to look better. Here are some of my predictions for 2024 in AI, the job market, and web development. AI in 2024 The hype around Artificial Intelligence (AI) is undeniable, but towards the end of the year, we saw a rise in complaints about LLMs "getting...
